Players Café is a great spot to eat if you enjoy breakfast at all hours of the day. When the previous reviewer wrote that this is Ponte Vedra's diner he was right. After a long night of drinking there are few things better then pancakes dripping with butter and syrup and black strong coffee and Players delivers. I would skip their lunches, they aren't bad, just not anything to write home about. The breakfasts on the other hand will leave you happy and full. Don't come to players looking for anything special what they do they do well. Make sure to check out the walls where cartoons of locals and celebrities are on the wall. I would give players 2 stars, skip their lunches and dinners and go for their breakfasts. Don't get me wrong, its good food, but there isn't anything unique about Players other then the fact that it is just about the only local breakfast spot like it in the town.

I came here after many Ponte Vedra long-timers suggested it. I will never take their food suggestions seriously again. I still love them, though. It was a Saturday and the place was bustling. We were able to walk-in with 4-people and sit near the window. I'm sure the regulars say the caricatures are so great they might as well have come straight out of The Vatican. The reality though is: they've just come from people so bored waiting 45min for an egg sandwich they took to the walls with any available pen. After waiting 10-minutes for our server to deliver the best watered-down coffee I've ever had, we waited another 10-minutes to have our orders taken. The bacon was a microwave-special, the eggs were undercooked, the fruit cup was a joke, and the pancakes.. Aunt Jemima would be proud that the cooks were watering down the batter as if there was a guideline to use as much water as possible to conserve batter for the Apocalypse. I'm going to skip Players Cafe from here on. My suggestion is that you do too.

Went here today for lunch and found myself waiting 30 minutes to order, while the lady stood 10 ft away chatting with other workers. She never refilled my drink a single time and it was empty at the time she brought my food out. The lady never checked how my food was or anything, even know they were not busy and she walked by me many times. I was waiting on my check for quite a while which she never did bring and I ended up getting back to work late. Some of the worst service I have ever experienced. Something I did notice, the regulars seemed to get better service. Food was not bad, but I can't say is was great either!

Not a fan. In a strip mall setting and it gets very slow when crowded (like breakfast on a weekend). The service is very friendly but the kitchen is very slow so long wait times. And the food is not that great IMO. I found the eggs/bacon/hash-browns/toast to be very average at best. I would not return,

I have been eating at Players for maybe as long as them have been open. The place is cool and you can stare at all the caricatures for hours. The breakfast is a regular breakfast that does taste good. I can even drink their coffee too. I don't like all this new fangled foo foo coffee. The stop in from time to time to get a quick breakfast sandwich like I did today. Good eats for sure.

I agree with Max J.'s take; I'm just not as strict in my star giving. Players has lasted; it is PV's diner. It's been around since before I was in high school and the writing is literally on the wall. Breakfast is their sweet spot. Nothing is really ever bad, but they know how to do breakfast. And while the menu options may seem a little simple and straight forward, they'll let you change it up as much as you want. Add cheese, add mayo, take out the tomato and add bacon. Do whatever you want and they can more than likely make it happen.

Typical diner, but can sit outside. Very friendly service. I had the special that was a chicken salad melt, and although it's normally not my thing - it was fantastic! The chicken salad itself and the whole sandwich. Quick service as well.

This is kind of a tough one for me. This place is purely local and comfortable, with quirky caricatures both traced on the walls and in many of the booths. The service has always been a bit slow, but the home fries have more than made up for it. However, they added a new waitress who used to work over at another breakfast place in town. She is utterly obnoxious, and one of the reasons I stopped going to the other place. I've had her twice now, and the service has been terrible (cold food, no silverware, you name it). The woman does this impersonation of a classic diner waitress, but her "jokes" are awkward and off color and she, unlike those mega-efficient diner professionals, is completely inept. Hopefully her stint here is not a permanent one.

We walk in and stand while the girl behind the counter adjusted her ponytail about 6 times and finally looked up and after being asked said...yeah, sit anywhere. The server (an older lady with longish blonde hair, no idea her name as she never gave it) was okay, took our Oder and dropped it off. Well my steak was ordered rare and delivered WELL DONE, I wanted to complain and get it replaced but the server never came back. After 5 min. or so I took my steak up and stood at the counter to be ignored some more till finally a guy (either the owner or manager, not sure he never said) acknowledged me and said they have have to cook them well done .... ITS THE LAW IN THE STATE OF FLORIDA! Are you kidding me, has this guy never been to a Steak house in his life? So he promises to recook it for me because he likes his rare also. He brings it to the table and again tells me they cook every steak well done because it's the law and he did this special for me. As he is walking away the server asks him what the problem was because in all this time, she has never come back to the table, no drink refills, no prebus nothing..... Well #1 if it were the law, shouldn't she have told me when I ordered it rare? #2 don't try to bullshit a Chef, I was polite and didn't call you on it and embarrass you in front on the whole diner. #3 when asked the server did admit the corned beef hash comes straight from a can....smfh..... #4 I won't recommend this diner or ever go back, I can excuse a mistake as simple as a screwed up steak, I cannot and will not forgive being told a lie right to my face,!

HORRIBLE SERVICE & LOUSY FOOD, under the recent new ownership. Walked in, no one said anything, place was 1/4 full. Sat down, table was filthy. Ten minutes later, bus boy cleaned it. Waited 40+ minutes for a simple egg breakfast. Asked bus boy to send over waitress. Saw him ask the waitress to come over. Waitress refused (busy doing nothing in the corner). Asked again for waitress. She came over, said nothing (no name tag), she just stared at my husband. Asked her to check on the status. She never returned. 10 minutes later, the owner yelled from across the room "it's coming right out". That never happened. Ten minutes later, rudest waitress in the world, dropped the cold food at the table and told my husband "you need to be more patient". Husband replied that he had been. Waitress walked away while he was talking and said "clearly I can see that you are a _ _ _". I then went over to the owner told the owner that he needs to ask the waitress to apologize for her behavior. Guess what, the owner never did ask the waitress to apologize. If you decide to waste your money, watch out. That waitress is about 5'10, long brunette hair in a ponytail, vanilla looks, average build, and I could give two _ _ _ _'_ attitude!! You have been warned!

Yes, it's a "Southern diner"...had brunch there last week while visiting PVB. Nice, big omlettes with yummy biscuit and my friend had "cheese grits"--NO, not a trendy version, but a portion of grits with a slice of good, ol' American cheese placed on top!! BTW...anything you order with "cheese"...American cheese is what you get!! Local hangout (we were heading to another restaurant next door, but it was closed by tax foreclosure!!) for sure. Good for what it is!!

If Ponte Vedra had a diner this would be it. Growing up in high school this was my favorite "roll out of bed at the crack of noon and still want breakfast spot" Pretty sure you can get breakfast all day long but they also have lunch stuff like sandwiches and chicken fingers. While it's certainly greasy, its that make you feel good that you are eating it kind of grease. Whether you are recovering from a hangover or just trying to fill that bottomless pit you call a stomach, this is your spot. The food comes out fast and you get your drink filled before you can finish the last one. Where else can you get two omelets, 1 pancake, a coffee, and a lemonade for $19.80 Don't try and decipher the recipe they give you before you pay, that's waitress code that you won't understand. Oh player's cafe how I will miss thee when I return to NYC.....

Worst service I have ever received! The staff of the Players Cafe appeared to be there to socialize among each other and eat food themselves rather than to assist customers. My "waitress" did not smile once and couldn't even be bothered to refill water glasses. She and the other wait staff were sitting at the counter talking to each other while customers had to interrupt them to ask if they sat themselves or had to wait to be seated. I have never felt more uncomfortable and unwelcome at an establishment. The food is good but unless this establishment gets a major staffing change, I would strongly recommend finding an alternative place to eat.
